Maria Moisés
(Script by Carina Correira) Published by Levoir (2024)
In this sentimental novel, Camilo Castelo Branco tells two stories intrinsically linked: the story of a clandestine love that suffers a tragic outcome with the death of Josefa da Lage, mother of a newborn baby carried away by the river Tâmega; and the story of his daughter, Maria Moisés, saved and welcomed by a poor fisherman. It is this duality - love of perdition and love of salvation - that the author so peculiarly knew how to portray, in a novel with romantic and realistic features immersed in the rural environment of Minho.
